Intumescent systems

The application of intumescent systems containing epoxy, vinyl or synthetic resins is a more sophisticated process, requiring experienced staff and special equipment. When exposed to heat or fire, the coating turns into a viscous liquid film and expands to form an insulating foam layer that absorbs some of the heat and slowly chars. Hence, the actual structure will maintain its integrity longer. These coatings (e.g. Chartek/Akzo Nobel or FIRETEX/Leighs) are mainly used for fire protection in applications where visible appearance is important.
